Glögg Spices~ Traditional Scandinavian Spice Mix for Wine and Aquavit. An Autumn and Winter Celebratory Drink ~ Mulling Spices

$16.00

The history of glögg in Scandinavia dates back centuries. It was initially introduced as a medicinal drink, believed to have healing properties. The spices used in glögg, such as cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and ginger, were thought to have warming and therapeutic effects on the body during the cold winter months. Over time, glögg evolved from a medicinal drink to a festive beverage associated with autumn and winter celebrations.

Glögg is not merely a beverage, but a symbol of merriment and togetherness. It is also believed that the spices infused in the drink possessed magical properties, capable of warding off the malicious spirits who roam the earthly realm from autumn to winter. Glögg is also sometimes associated with the mythical creature known as the "tomte" or "nisse." According to folklore, the tomte is a small, bearded creature who acts as a guardian of the home and brings good fortune, or misfortune if ignored, to the household. It is believed that offering a cup of glögg to the tomte during the winter season will ensure a prosperous and joyful year ahead.

As the centuries passed, glogg became an integral part of Scandinavian culture, especially during the festive season. It was a drink that brought families and friends together, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere amidst the snow-covered landscapes. The tradition of brewing glogg was passed down from generation to generation, with each family adding their own unique blend of spices, creating a recipe that was as individual as their own stories.

So dear friends, raise your horns/cups/goblets to the skies and enjoy the warmth that this cherished drink has to offer. Skål!

This aromatic blend of organic Glögg spices, fruits, and nuts contains Allspice, Ginger Root, Candied Ginger, Raisins, Clove, Cinnamon, Orange Peel, Almonds, Star Anise, Cardamom, and Lemon Peel.

Add these enchanting spices to wine and aquavit and create your own glogg, follow these instructions:
•1 bottle of red wine
• 1 cup of aquavit (Scandinavian spirit)
• For a non-alcoholic version, simply add your spices to apple cider, follow the same steps, and enjoy.
Instructions:
1. In a large pot, or cauldron, pour the red wine and aquavit. Place it over low heat, ensuring it doesn't boil.
2. Add 3 tablespoons per one bottle of wine to the pot.
3. Allow the mixture to gently simmer for about 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
4. Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool slightly.
5. Strain the glogg into a separate container, discarding the spices and fruit.
6. Serve the glogg warm in mugs or glasses, garnishing with a few raisins and almonds in each serving.
